Low zinc intake increases the risk of heart disease and diabetes

The results of a large study carried out in India suggest that zinc deficiency may increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes.

Researchers examined zinc intake in 3575 rural and urban adults in northern India. The results showed that those who consumed less than 7 mg per day had an increased risk of diabetes. Urban residents also showed higher rates of heart disease.
